In Madagascar, 20 people have died after Tropical Cyclone Gezani struck Madagascar’s main port city of Toamasina, toppling houses and cutting power across the region. Winds exceeded 195 kilometers per hour, prompting red alerts for floods and landslides as the storm moved inland. Authorities reported 33 injuries, 15 missing people, and over 2,700 evacuations. Toamasina, home to around 300,000 residents, suffered extensive damage, with 75 percent of infrastructure destroyed. Gezani weakened to a tropical storm Wednesday but is expected to move back toward Madagascar’s southwest coast next week. Madagascar, highly vulnerable to cyclones, was hit by Cyclone Fytia less than two weeks ago. The UN released 3 million dollars to aid emergency response. The cyclone struck less than two weeks after Cyclone Fytia killed 14 people in the country.
