Congress President Rahul Gandhi’s offer to resign from the the post of Party President following party debacle in the just concluded Lok Sabha elections has been rejected by the Congress Working Committee, CWC.
Briefing media after the meeting of Congress Working Committee here, party spokesperson Randeep Surjewala said Rahul Gandhi offered his resignation but it was rejected by the members of CWC unanimously.
The CWC requested Mr Gandhi’s leadership and guidance to lead the party in its ideological battle and to champion the cause of country’s youth and farmers.
In a resolution, the CWC accepted the mandate of the people of India and said Congress party is committed to don the role of a constructive opposition. It recommended a thorough introspection and requested the Congress President for a complete overhaul and a detailed restructuring at every level of the party.
A plan to this effect shall come into force at the earliest. CWC said Congress has lost the battle but its fight against divisive forces and commitment to principles continue to be stronger.
Party President Rahul Gandhi, UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi and former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh along with senior party leaders Ghulam Nabi Azad, Mallikarjun Kharge, P Chidambaram were among those who attended the meeting.
