The path of formation of government in Maharashtra has become clear with all the three parties- Congress, NCP and Shiv Sena slowly and steadily arriving on consensus. The Congress Working Committee (CWC) Thursday granted in-principle approval to the party to form government in Maharashtra along with the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) and the Shiv Sena. The approval was granted during a meeting chaired by Congress president Sonia Gandhi in New Delhi. After the meeting, Congress general secretary K C Venugopal said, the CWC was briefed on the party’s discussions with the NCP too.

“Stable govt will be formed in Maharashtra soon”

Congress party has said though a final decision on government formation will be taken tomorrow (Friday), the CWC has broadly agreed to go ahead with the Shiv Sena and the NCP in Maharashtra. Another meeting between the Congress and the NCP is to happen on tonight and a final meeting with Shiv Sena will happen on Friday in Mumbai. Yesterday, during a joint press conference, senior Congress leader and former chief minister Prithviraj Chavan expressed confidence about the alliance forming a “stable” government soon while NCP spokesperson Nawab Malik was unambiguous about the need to join hands with the Shiv Sena. Shiv Sena leader and Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Raut too said the NCP and the Congress have clearly stated that the three parties will come together and make a Common Minimum Programme.
