England come good under pressure with a fighting 31-run win to end India’s unbeaten run!
India’s unbeaten record at CWC19 is over, and England have kept their progression within their own hands. They just need to beat New Zealand in their final group game and they will be through to the semi-finals.
Bairstow and Roy set England up well, and Stokes pushed the score up to a total which was a big challenge, India requiring a record CWC chase to win.
After a brilliant start from Woakes, and Sharma being dropped on 4, Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma batted superbly through the middle overs to keep India well within reach. Unfortunately, with the exception of Pandya, India struggled to accelerate at the end, and when Dhoni and Jadhav came together they seemed to give up on victory and instead try and limit damage to their net run rate.
Dhoni hits India’s first six of the innings in the final over. It’s been an odd end to the innings, with Dhoni seemingly never believing they could win it once Pandya got out. Woakes has bowled fantastically today, and fully deserves his 2/58.
Dhoni manages to find the boundary, although only thanks to a rare misfield from Stokes on the boundary. Archer finishes his ten overs with figures of 0/45, and if anything those figures probably downplay how well he has bowled.
