Currency Crisis across the country due government sudden decision to de-monetize 500 and 1000 rupee notes is all set to dominate the winter session of parliament beginning Wednesday. The government decision has evoked sharp reaction from the opposition, including Congress, Left, TMC, AAP and JD(U). They are ready to pin down the government on the issue. Various parties have separately given adjournment notices in the Lok Sabha.

Opposition have also given notice for suspension of proceedings in Rajya Sabha to discuss the issue and highlight the plight of the common man. Surgical strike across LoC at terror launch pads, situation in Jammu and Kashmir and OROP for ex-servicemen are some of the other issues which will hog the limelight during the session. The government has already made it clear that it will not shy away from discussing any issue.

Congress is of the view that implementation of demonetisation move along with its alleged leakage to BJP should be questioned in both houses of Parliament. Congress leaders have alleged that prior information of demonetisation was given by the Prime Minister to his own party leaders and termed it as a “scam”. Congress has given notices for adjournment, short duration discussions and calling attention motion on various issues including demonetisation.

During the month long Winter Session, nine new bills including GST and surrogacy regulation will be introduced in Parliament, in addition to Indian Institutes of Managements bill to confer statutory status to the institutes and competence to award degrees, HIV AIDS Prevention and Control, Mental Health Care and Consumer Protection Bills which will also be taken up for consideration and passing. The session is expected to be stormy with opposition parties gearing up to corner the government on several issues including demonetization of high value notes.
