Strict curfew like restrictions were imposed Monday in five districts of south Kashmir in the wake of the killings of two civilians during an encounter between terrorists and security forces. The situation in Bijbehara Anantnag, Kulgam and Shopian districts was reported tense but under control.

The movement of people was allowed on the Srinagar-Jammu national highway passing through south Kashmir’s Bijbehara and Anantnag towns.

Heavy deployment of police and para military personnel has been made in all the sensitive areas in southern districts and Srinagar even as there is no restriction on the movement of people anywhere else in the Valley.

Four local terrorists, two each of Lashkar e Toiba and Hizbul Mujahideen and two army men were killed in the encounter that lasted for several hours yesterday. AIR
