The Communist Party of India has condemned the arrest of Umar Khalid under the stringent Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA). Subsequently he was remanded to a ten-day police custody in a case related to North-East Delhi riots .
The Party recalls here that Khalid has been put under continuous harassment since 2016. This, the Party feels, is also part of the RSS-BJP government’s draconian moves to suppress dissent and differing views. Freedom of Speech with right to differ and dissent is guaranteed under the Indian Constitution.
The Party strongly condemns the arrest and subsequent remand of Khalid.
