Counting is underway for by election to the state Assemblies in Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Manipur, Nagaland, Karnataka, Odisha, Chhattisgarh, Haryana, Jharkhand and Telangana. By-polls to 54 Assembly seats in 10 states took place on 3rd of this month while four assembly seats in Manipur went to bypolls on 7th of this month.

In Madhya Pradesh, the ruling BJP has bagged five assembly seats and is leading on 14 out of 28 Assembly seats. The BJP appears to be in a strong position to retain power in the state. The Congress has bagged one seat and leads on seven, while the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) candidate is leading on one seat.

In Gujarat, ruling BJP has bagged three seats and is leading on five Assembly Constituencies.

In Uttar Pradesh, ruling BJP has two seat and is leading on 4 assembly seats while Samajwadi Party has won one seat. Seven constituencies went to bypolls in the state.

In Jharkhand, JMM candidate Basant Soren has won from Dumka by 6500 votes, while Congress candidate Kumar Jaimangal has won from Bermo seat by a margin of over 14 thousand votes.

In Manipur, the ruling party BJP has won two assembly seats and is leading on one. An Independent candidate is leading in another constituency.

In Nagaland, Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party has bagged one seat while independent candidate is leading on another seat.

In Karnataka, BJP has bagged one seat and is leading on another seat which went to by polls.

In Telangana, BJP candidate is leading in Dubbaka seat.

In Odisha, the ruling Biju Janata Dal candidates are leading in both the Tirtol and Balasore Sadar assembly seats.

In Chhattisgarh, the ruling Congress won the Marwahi Assembly by-poll. Congress’ Dr. K.K.Dhruv won the bypoll for the seat by a margin of 38,197 votes.
