The Assam unit of Congress party has expressed apprehension that its worker might be targeted by armed cadres of Durga Vahini and Bajrang Dal in state. The party urged the union home minister Rajnath Singh to order a high-level probe into ongoing arms training to the cadres of the two organisations.
Addressing a press conference at the Press Club of India here, Assam Congress chief Ripun Bora accused Sarbananda Sonowal Government of turning a blind eye, towards ‘ arms training’ by volunteers of Durga Vahini and Bajrang Dal both associated with Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP).
“WE have demanded that proper action should be taken against the two organisations for indulging in such unlawful activities.” Bora said.
Bora played an audio visual recording of the training session of the armed cadres to prove his point. He said arms training are imparted to members of the armed forces while the extremists undertake training secretly. But in Assam cadres of Bajrang Dal and Durga Vahini, both of which claim to be socio-cultural organisations were undergoing arms training, which is dangerous and illegal.
“What is the motive behind imparting arms training to its cadres? We fear that they might take action against Congress Party to finish us,” Bora said.
He said that one of the venues shown in the video clip was of a session in Hojai at RSS camp and the other was of a session at Nalbari. Most unfortunate part is that the State Government’s police and intelligence department have totally failed to get advance information about such arms training, the State Congress president said.
Bora also alleged that the State Government has totally failed to make advance arrangements for the flood season. Describing the floods as unprecedented, Bora said that the State Government could have prevented the misery of the people had it taken advance measures.
The Government of Assam did not make contingency plan and the Chief Minister’s Office did not give proper directions. There was no inter-coordination among the various departments and the result was chaos, he alleged.
