Hectic parleys continued throughout the night for the formation of government in Goa. Congress has said that it would stake its claim to form government.

Addressing a press conference at the party state headquarters in Panjim, Congress General Secretary and Goa in-charge Digvijaya Singh said, that the meeting of Congress Legislature Party will elect the leader and the party will stake claim to form government before the Governor. Mr Singh, claimed that the party has received support from former Chief Minister Churchill Alemao of NCP.

He also said, that himself and K C Venugopal will talk to the non-BJP candidates to get their support. On the other hand, BJP will require support of about seven more MLAs to form the government.

Senior BJP leaders have already initiated talks with party’s estranged partners Maharashtravadi Gomantak Party, Goa Forward Party and Independents.

Yesterday, Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar had said, the party has the highest vote share of 33 per cent though it has won less number of seats and will try to contact the smaller parties and unaligned independents for support.
