Congress party has decided to boycott Goods and Services Tax (GST) roll-out programme on June 30 midnight saying it was not a grand function for the country that should be projected in such way. It said that GST is mere a tax reform that could be amended any time.

Talking to media persons here today Congress leaders said that rolling GST is not such a big event that should be celebrated at midnight at parliament house. Congress leader Ghulam nabi Azad said that midnight function at Central Hall were held in parliment only thrice  first in 1947,  in 1972 when silver jubliee of parliament was celeberated and in 1997 when golden jubliee of parliament was celebrated.

Earlier Trinamool Congress (TMC) chief and West Bengal Chief Minister Ms Mamata Banerjee on Wednesday said her party will not attend the GST roll-out programme on June 30 midnight as she flayed the “unnecessary hurry” to roll it out.

The Bill for Good and Services Tax, which is described as one of the most important economic reforms, had been passed in the last session of Parliament.
