Lok SabhaCongress party today staged a walkout in protest against the remarks of the Prime Minister. Yesterday, PM Modi took a dig at congress party saying everybody knows who has connections in Italy while referring to AgustaWestland deal at an election rally in Kerala.

Opposition Congress today forced repeated adjournments of the Rajya Sabha on AgustaWestland chopper deal issue. The House witnessed four adjournments in the pre-lunch session to meet at 2 PM.

The Congress members took serious exception to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s election campaign speech in Kerala and Tamil Nadu in connection with the AgustaWestland Helicopter deal.

The issue was raised by Leader of Opposition Ghulam Nabi Azad. He alleged that such statements by Prime Minister are aimed at tarnishing the image of the Congress party particularly, during Assembly elections. Mr Azad reiterated his party’s demand that the probe into the Chopper deal should be done under Supreme Court’s supervision.

Later, Congress members trooped into the well of the House, raising slogans against Prime Minister.

Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs Minister Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi took serious objection to the sloganeering and said it is not fair on the part of Congress members. Sukhendu Sekhar Roy of the Trinamool Congress urged the Chair to invoke relevant rules to suspend the agitating members.

Anand Sharma of the Congress said Prime Minister should make such statements in Parliament and not outside. He alleged that by this, Mr Modi is pre-empting CBI investigations.

As noisy scenes continued, Deputy Chairman P J Kurien adjourned the House for ten minutes.

When the House re-assembled at 1142 hrs, Congress members raised slogans from their seats forcing the second adjournment till Noon.

The issue was also raised when the House took up the Question Hour. Chairman Mohammed Hamid Ansari was forced to adjourn the House twice. Now, the House will reassemble at 2 PM.
