Severe cold conditions are prevailing at many places in North India including Delhi, Punjab and Haryana. According to the Met department, the maximum temperatures are below normal by 2 to 10 degrees Celsius in these places.
People in the National Capital shiver in biting cold with the minimum temperature recorded at 6.9 degrees Celsius yesterday.
Moderate to dense fog during the early morning hours disrupted rail services leading to cancellation of trains and delayed others. However, flight operations remained normal.
Fog and mist which engulfed various parts of Punjab and Haryana affected rail and traffic in the region. The lowest maximum temperature over plains of the country was recorded at Ambala in Haryana yesterday. It was 10.3 degrees Celsius. Foggy weather reduced the visibility in various parts including Ludhiana, Patiala, Amritsar and Ambala.
Most parts of Himachal Pradesh also continued to reel under biting cold wave as minimum temperatures hovered around freezing point in spite of dry weather in the state. The MeT department said, mercury dipped to minus 11.7 degree at Keylong, while Manali and Kalpa recorded a low of minus 4.6 degrees and minus 3.2 degrees Celsius.
With cold wave intensifying in Rajasthan, Jaipur district authorities yesterday directed all private, government and CBSE-affiliated schools in the city to change their timings.
