Chinese President Xi Jinping has arrived in Kathmandu on a two-day visit to Nepal. After concluding his second informal summit with Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Chennai, Mr Jinping landed in Kathmandu last evening. It is the first visit by a Chinese President to the Himalayan nation in 23 years.
He was received by the President of Nepal, Bidya Devi Bhandari. Vice President Nanda Bahadur Pun, Prime Minister K P Sharma Oli and other senior leaders were also present at the airport to welcome President Jinping. He was accorded a ceremonial reception at the airport.
Later in the evening, the Chinese President met his Nepali counterpart at Sheetal Niwas, the President House. He also attended a Banquet hosted by President Bhandari.
President Jinping will hold delegation-level talks with Prime Minister K P Sharma Oli tomorrow morning. Following the talks, both the leaders will witness signing of bilateral agreements and memoranda of understanding.
Senior leaders of Nepal will call on the Chinese President during his sojourn in Kathmandu. The Government of Nepal has declared a public holiday on Sunday in the honour of visiting dignitary.
