China has announced an additional 84 percent tariff on all goods imported from the US. China’s finance ministry said that these new charges will take effect from midnight tonight. China said it is raising its retaliatory tariff on the US to 84 percent, up from 34 percent.
Earlier, China accused the USA of “bullying practices” after US President Donald Trump imposed 104 percent duties on Chinese goods. In a white paper published today, China alleged that the White House has seriously damaged the global trade order and the security and stability of global industrial and supply chains. Meanwhile, China stated that Beijing is willing to communicate with Washington to resolve the issue. Earlier, Trump had imposed a 104 percent tariff on China.
European Union member states have voted in favour of imposing tariffs on some US-imported goods. EU member states approved 25 percent tariffs on various US products, including almonds, orange juice, poultry, soybeans, steel, aluminium, tobacco, and yachts, in retaliation for the US imposing similar tariffs on EU steel and aluminium imports. The new tariffs will affect goods worth 20.9 billion euros.
The Commission, in a statement, said that the new tariffs will come into effect on the 15th of this month. It added that the EU considers US tariffs unjustified and damaging, causing economic harm to both sides, as well as to the global economy.
