A Delhi court today extended the CBI custody of former Finance Minister P Chidambaram by one day in the INX Media corruption case. Special Judge Ajay Kumar Kuhar will hear the interim bail plea of the Congress leader tomorrow.
He was produced before the court on expiry of his three-day CBI custody which was granted on 30th of last month. The CBI opposed any relief to him in the case and sought an extension of his custodial interrogation by one day.
Mr Chidambaram was arrested on August 21, after the Delhi High Court dismissed his anticipatory bail plea a day earlier.
Mr Chidambaram was Union Home Minister and also finance minister during the UPA rule from 2004 to 2014. The CBI had registered an FIR on May 15, 2017, alleging irregularities in the Foreign Investment Promotion Board clearance granted to the INX Media group for receiving overseas funds of 305 crore rupees in 2007 during Mr Chidambaram’s tenure as the finance minister.
Thereafter, the Enforcement Directorate lodged a money laundering case in this regard in 2017. His son Karti Chidambaram, also named in the case is out on bail.
