Two security personnel killed in a Maoist attack in Bijapur district of Bastar region of Chattisgarh Saturday evening.

The incident occurred when the two policemen and the villager were going to Tippapuram village on a motorbike.

A small action team – comprising four to five rebels – of Naxals were responsible for the firing that left Constable Arvind Minj and assistant constable Sukku Habka dead on the spot. The villager, however, escaped with injuries, said Deputy Inspector General (anti-Naxal operations) Sunderraj P.

While locals took the injured villager to Cherla for treatment, the two police personnel could not be saved.

The attack takes place two days before polling in the fourth phase of the Lok Sabha elections 2019.

On April 9, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) legislator Bhima Mandavi and four others accompanying his convoy were killed by Maoists using an improvised explosive device (IED).
