The Centre has agreed to hold tripartite talks at the political level with various organizations from Assam who are demanding granting of Schedule Tribe status.

Six ethnic communities Koch Rajbongshi, Tai Ahom, Moran, Muttock, Chutiya and Adivasi are demanding ST status. Union Home minister Rajnath Singh has conveyed it to Assam Chief Minister Sarbanand Sonowal when they met in New Delhi today.

An official release said that the Union Home Minister agreed to hold talks and the dates for the meetings would be communicated soon. Mr. Singh also agreed to hold tripartite talks with organizations including All Bodo Students Union on separate Bodoland issue. It may be recalled that Mr. Sonowal has requested Union Home minister to hold political talks with various organizations from Assam on their demands.

With regard to implementation of the Assam Accord, Chief Minister urged Mr.Singh to give appropriate instructions to complete the Indo-Bangladesh border fencing, including the riverine areas and also install a new fencing with modern design. He also requested that fencing in the neighbouring States be also completed. The Union Home Minister agreed to re-examine the entire matter of border fencing in a time-bound manner.
