The Centre has sought a report from the West Bengal government on the killings of Dalit men in the state following the announcement of Panchayat election results.
In a note to the state government, Social Justice and Empowerment Minister Thaawarchand Gehlot also expressed concern over the killings.
The body of an 18-year-old man was found hanging from a tree near his home in Purulia district last month. Days later, the body of a 35-year-old man was found hanging from a high-tension tower in the same district, triggering protests by locals.
BJP has claimed that both the men were its members. The state government had, on Saturday, ordered a probe by the criminal investigation department into the deaths.
