Talking to Media after the meeting of North East Council, NEC here on Friday, the Union Minister for Development of North Eastern Region, B K Handique said, the balance will be maintained between development and ecosystem while pursuing infrastructure development works in the region.

The Minister said that NEC has decided to construct roads on the Engineering Procurement Contract Mode rather than Build-Operate-Transfer, BOT, which has proved to be failure in the region. Mr. Handique informed that 443 Km of additional roads at an estimated cost of 1353 Crore rupees will be upgraded with the help of Asian Development Bank in the region.
