Eight persons have died in police action to control irate mob in Churachandpur district in the last 24 hours. About 30 persons also got injured in the police action and condition of 15 of them is reported to be critical.

Houses of State Health Minister Phungjathang Tonsing, Lok Sabha MP Thangso Baite, Hill Areas Committee Chairman of the state legislative assembly Dr. Chaltolien Amo and five Congress MLAs T. N. Haokip, Manga Vaiphei, Vungjagin Valte, Ginsuanhau and Nemcha Kipgen were set ablaze by irate mob in Churachandpur and Senapati Districts.

Meanwhile, Centre has said that it is closely monitoring the situation in Manipur after incidents of violence occurred in the state. Home Minister Rajnath Singh today spoke to Manipur Chief Minister Okram Ibobi Singh regarding the incident and took stock of the situation.

The violent agitation against the passing of three Bills unanimously by the state legislature yesterday to protect indigenous people of Manipur has badly affected normal life in Churachandpur District, Sadar Hills sub-division of Senapati District and Indo-Myanmar border town Moreh of the state.

The police barrack at Kondong Lairembi of Moreh has been set ablaze by an irate mob this afternoon. Additional police forces have been sent to Moreh today itself and the situation in the border town has been brought under control now.

In Churachandpur District, the electric bill counter opened inside the complex of Churachandpur police station has also been burned down today in fresh violence by the irate mob. Although no bandh is called in Churachandpur District, Sadar Hills sub-division of Senapati District and Indo-Myanmar border town Moreh of the state, vehicular movement has remained off the road and all business establishments including shops and markets also remained closed in these areas in the last 24 hours.
