Union Commerce Secretary Rita Teaotia has asked the Maharashtra government to frame its own exports policy and create a traders facilitation centre to resolve the grievances of exporters. Ms. Teaotia was in Mumbai yesterday to hold a meeting with state officials and exporters regarding the hurdles faced in exporting various items. She said that exporters have been complaining of lack of a systematic export policy and also have complaints against JNPT port which is already working beyond its capacity. The Commerce Secretary advised the state government to remove bottlenecks and bring transparency in administration and policy to achieve good results.

Ms. Teaotia informed that the Centre’s Foreign Trade Policy is to support manufacturers and service sectors with special emphasis on improving the ease of doing business. She said the policy lays special focus on trade facilitation and has introduced new schemes for exporters called Merchandise Exports from India Scheme and Service Exports from India Scheme.
