PARLIAMENTThe Centre has requested the Chief Justices of High Courts to give due consideration to suitable candidates from other backward classes, scheduled castes, scheduled tribes, minorities and women while appointing judicial officers under their jurisdiction.

Replying to supplementaries in the Rajya Sabha on Friday, Law Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad said according to constitutional provisions, the States have to maintain due diligence in their appointment, promotion and reservation. The Central government has no role in it, he said.
