Union Home minister Rajnath Singh has appealed to the agitating Jat leaders to maintain peace, even as Jat leaders have refused to withdraw their agitation till legislation is passed giving them an OBC quota.

He said, in a democracy no solution can happen through violence. Rural Development Minister Chaudhary Birender Singh appealed to the Jat community to restrain and solve the issue through dialogue.

Meanwhile Army is being deployed in nine districts of the state and curfew has been imposed in Rohtak and Bhiwani along with shoot-at-sight orders after one person died and several were injured during the stir for quota.

The protesters set RN Mall in Rohtak on fire, even as Army started moving in to bring the situation under control.

The protesters also looted a private armory in Rohtak. According to reports, the administration has shut schools in violence-hit districts of the state.

With the violence in the state escalating, Union Ministers, Rajnath Singh, Manohar Parrikar, Sushma Swaraj, Arun Jaitley reviewed the situation late on Friday night.

The Union Ministers, along with NSA Ajit Doval, Union Home secretary Rajiv Mehrishi, Director of Intelligence Bureau Dineswar Sharma besides others, took stock of the situation.

The stir has disrupted rail and road traffic, and in some places Government had to suspend Internet and mobile SMS services, and declare curfew at several places.

Centre asks Haryana govt to provide security to people

The Centre has asked Haryana government to provide security to people and property by ensuring law and order in the State in the wake of Jat agitation over reservation.

This was conveyed by Cabinet Secretary P K Sinha to Haryana Chief Secretary DS Dhesi and DGP Yashpal Singhal at a meeting of National Crisis Management Committee through video- conferencing.

During the meeting, Mr Sinha reviewed law and order situation in the State.

Home Secretary Rajiv Mehrishi and others senior officers were also present in the meeting.
