Chief Election Commissioner, CEC, Nasim Zaidi today said the hacking challenge to try and prove that the Electronic Voting Machines EVMs can be tampered with will be held from 3rd June.

Addressing media after holding a live demo of EVMs and VVPATs in New Delhi today, Mr Zaidi said national and state political parties can demonstrate that EVMs can be tampered during the challenge. He said no proof has been given by those who alleged EVM tampering in recently held assembly elections in five states. The CEC also said, this challenge will boost voter confidence.

Chief Election Commissioner rubbished the claim that EVMs could be tampered with, and said no manipulation of the machines is possible.

Mr Zaidi said replacement of the internal circuit of EVMs is not possible at all. He added that security measures by the Commission are foolproof and it is next to impossible to access the EVMs.

Mr Zaidi assured that Election Commission would do its best to maintain the integrity and conduct free and fair elections in the country. He said improving the election process is a responsibility of all stakeholders and the EC is taking allnecessary steps in this regard.

Last week, the poll body had said that it will give a chance to political parties to prove EVMs used in the recent assembly polls were tampered-with, after several opposition parties questioned their reliability and demanded going back to the paper ballot system. The Commission also held an all party meeting to discuss the issues relating to the reliability of the EVMs and Voter Verifiable Paper Audit Trail (VVPATs) and electoral reforms
