Under fire from Muslims organisations for its decision to impose a strict dress code for the All India Pre-Medical Test (AIPMT) re-test on July 25, the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has clarified that the dress code is only an “advisory” to prevent “inconvenience to the candidates during frisking by metal detectors”.
The CBSE in a statement said there would be “no bar” on wearing customary dress and for candidates who are appearing in centres in extreme climatic conditions. However, such candidates should ensure their presence for frisking at least half an hour before the last reporting time of 9:30 AM, it said in a statement.
“Dress code mentioned in notification is advisory as it may delay entry in examination centre and cause inconvenience to the candidates during frisking by metal detectors. There is no bar on wearing customary dress or for such candidates appearing from centres in extreme climatic conditions. However, such candidates should ensure their presence for frisking by metal detector at least half-an-hour before the last reporting time i.e. 9.30 am. All examination centres have been advised accordingly. The candidates are requested to cooperate with the board and the examination centres to maintain the sanctity of the re-examination being held as per orders of the hon’ble Supreme Court of India,” said CBSE in a statement.
