CBIChhattisgarh Government today decided to hand over to the CBI the case related to an alleged CD of PWD Minister Rajesh Munata.

The state cabinet, presided over by Chief Minister Raman Singh, met this evening and took the decision in view of seriousness of the case. Higher Education Minister Prem Prakash Pandey briefed the media about the decision.

Meanwhile, an FIR has been filed against state Congress chief Bhupesh Baghel in the reported Minister’s video clip case.

This has been done on a complaint filed by Rajesh Munat, accusing Baghel and senior journalist Vinod Verma for allegedly tarnishing his image through what he called a fake sex CD.

Inspector General of Police, Raipur range, Pradeep Gupta said further action will be taken on the basis of ongoing investigation.

Bhupesh Baghel has demanded an independent probe in the reported video clip case.

Talking to reporters in Raipur today, he demanded that the probe should be monitored by a sitting judge of Supreme Court or High Court.

He alleged that the BJP government is usurping the freedom of the press by misusing the police machinery.

The police have secured transit remand for journalist Vinod Verma till Monday from a Ghaziabad court. Verma was arrested Ghaziabad in connection with an extortion case registered in Raipur.

Accusing the Congress of hatching a conspiracy, the minister said his party has already stated that the CD was fake and even a local TV channel in its report on Saturday mentioned that it has been tampered with.

The matter seems to be a “political and criminal conspiracy” and, therefore, it was decided that by the premier investigation agency should probe it, Pandey said. Asked if Chhattisgarh PWD Minister Rajesh Munot allegedly involved in the row will step down from his post till the investigation gets completed, he said, “How can a state minister influence a CBI probe?”
