CBI sources said that the extent of loss to the state exchequer may not be included in this chargesheet as the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India is yet to complete the process of ascertaining the loss on allocation of spectrum to all operators between 2001 and 2008.

The chargesheet is likely to cover the allegedly criminal conspiracy behind the allocation of spectrum during 2007-08 by Raja, the then Telecom minister.

Meanwhile the CBI Friday informed the Supreme Court that it was willing to take over the probe into the mysterious death of Sadiq Batcha, a close aide of 2G spectrum case accused, former Telecom Minister A Raja.

CBI’s willingness was conveyed by Senior advocate K K Venugopal, appearing for the agency, to a Bench of Justices G S Singhvi and A K Ganguly. Earlier, the Tamil Nadu Government had favoured a CBI probe into Batcha’s death. The Bench asked Additional Solicitor General Indira Jaising to take instructions from the Centre and inform it about the issuance of a notification for transferring the case to the CBI by Monday. The CBI also informed the court that senior advocate U U Lalit will be appointed as special public prosecutor for the trial in the 2G spectrum case before a special court exclusively set up for the purpose.
