cauvery_b_04-10-2012Security has been tightened to face the one day strike called by farmers associations and political parties in Tamil Nadu,today regarding Cauvery river water sharing issue.

More than one lakh police men have been deployed all over the state to prevent any untoward incidents.

Major political parties like DMK, Congress DMDK, MDMK, PMK Tamil Maanila Congress and lorry owners, traders associations are supporting the strike in Tamil Nadu.

Cauvery delta farmers in Thanjavur, Tiruvarur and Nagapattinam are urging the government to set up Cauvery management board to find lasting solution to Cauvery issue.

Normal life has been hit in most parts of the state especially delta districts. Private schools are closed but most of the government schools will be working today.

Tight security has been given to central government offices railway stations and banks. Milk supplies have been affected and almost all the shops are closed. Autos, lorries are off the roads.

However, government buses are running with heavy police security. Karnataka establishments in Tamil Nadu including banks and hotels are being given strong protection.

In Puducherry, Police have made elaborate security arrangements in view of the bandh call by various organisations in the Union Territory today.

Puducherry Police has put up police posts in sensitive areas to avoid any untoward incident.

The shut down is in protest against the violence against Tamil speaking people in Karanataka following Supreme Court’s interim direction on the release of Kaveri Water.

All political parties have extended support to the bandh call in Puducherry and the neighbouring Tamil Nadu.
Traders too have declared support and said all shops will remain closed today.

Karnataka government failed to protect Tamils and establishments run by them alleges the protestors and want the Union Government take action against the state.
