Union Minister of State for Social Justice and Empowerment Ramdas Athawale said that the caste system can be annihilated by inter-caste marriages. Mr Athawale said that he is happy about inter-caste marriages which have picked up in Telangana and informed that he has requested the state to increase the incentive from 50,000 to 1 lakh rupees for inter-caste marriages.
He said that the centre would support the present reservation policy for SC, ST and OBCs.
Talking to media in Hyderabad today he said that the Prime Minister Mr Narendra Modi also fully supports the present reservation system. The Minister objected to the comments made by RSS spokesman Manmohan Vaidya on reservation policy in Jaipur recently. He said that the forward castes can have 25% reservations over and above SC, ST and OBC and adding that reservations can be given to other castes like Jats, Patels and Brahmin communities also through an amendment to the Constitution and upto 75%.
