Campaigning for the first phase of Assembly elections in Assam and West Bengal will end today. In West Bengal 18 constituencies spread over Paschim Medinipur, Purulia and Bankura districts will go to polls in this phase on Monday. In Assam 65 constituencies will go to polls in this phase on Monday. A total of 539 candidates are in the fray in this phase. The Election Commission has taken necessary steps to prevent impersonation of voters.
A large number of D-voters are at the centre of the electoral politics in the Assam’s voters’ list has this unique category which is not found in any other states. The people, whose nationality are not completely verified have been marked as D-voters, which means Doubtful or Dubious voters.
