At least 55 people were killed and nearly 600 injured when an overloaded passenger train travelling between two largest cities Yaounde and Douala In Cameroon, derailed and overturned.
Transport Minister Edgar Alain Mebe Ngoo said the accident took place near the central town of Eseka, 120 kms west of the capital Yaounde. The Minister said, the cause of the accident is not yet clear.
Updating an earlier toll, Ngoo said 55 people had been confirmed dead and a further 575 were injured in the incident, several of them in very serious condition.
