Calcutta High Court judge C S Karnan failed to appear before the Supreme Court in connection with suo motu contempt proceedings. The Apex Court deferred proceedings in the case by three weeks as neither Karnan nor his lawyer appeared before it.
The Court also took on record the letter written by Justice Karnan to Registrar General of apex court in which he alleged victimisation for being a Dalit. Contempt proceedings were initiated by the Chief Justice of India J S Khehar-led bench against Justice Karnan after he continuously levelled allegations against the Madras high court chief justice and other judges.
In the letter that Justice Karnan had written to the PMO in January, he had mentioned names of judges, who had allegedly indulged in corruption, taking exception to one particular judge at the Madras High Court. The SC had taken note of this January letter to initiate proceedings against him.
