Head Constable Ratan Lal, posted in ACP Gokalpuri office in Delhi, died on Monday during clashes over the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) in Maujpur in Northeast Delhi. Section 144 has been imposed in the North East area of Delhi.
A Delhi Police head constable was killed during the clashes over the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) in Maujpur in Delhi on Monday. Head Constable Ratan Lal was posted in the ACP Gokalpuri office in Delhi. The clashes broke out between pro and anti-CAA demonstrations in Gokalpuri on Monday when the two sides pelted stones at each other. Tension escalated in Jaffrabad and Maujpur areas after protesters torched at least two houses and a fire tender during the clashes between pro and anti-CAA groups.
Head Constable Ratan Lal was deployed in the Maujpur area where clashes had broken out on Monday. He had sustained grave injuries during the stone-pelting in the area during the anti-Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) protest. Ratan Lal was trying to pacify the protesters when he was hit by stones on his head. The head constable was taken to a nearby hospital where he died of his injuries.
According to reports Protesters enter the residence of AAP’s Nehru Vihar corporator Mohd. Tahir Hussain and damaged the property. Tahir Hussain was inside his residence with his family when the incident happened.
People say that there has been stone pelting from the crematorium side by the protesters. Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal expressed concern over the incidents and has sought help from Union Home Minister Amit Shah in order to ensure law and order in the capital city.

Meanwhile, one Delhi Police head constable has lost his life and one DCP injured during clashes between two groups in Delhi’s Gokulpuri area.
The Delhi Metro, meanwhile, announced closure of entrance and exit gates of Maujpur-Babarpur metro station.
Protests and rallies by anti and pro-Citizenship (Amendment) Act (CAA) groups rocked the area on Sunday, with pro-CAA groups rallying at Maujpur-Babarpur metro station, and Maujpur chowk while the anti-CAA protesters held fort in Kabir Nagar and Jaffarabad areas.
A Reuters witness saw at least one Muslim man and a burqa-clad woman beaten by dozens of pro-law protesters with sticks and iron rods.Reuters photojournalist Danish Siddiqui shared photos of a Muslim man, cowering on a street in Chandbagh area of northeast Delhi, surrounded by several men armed with sticks and poles. The man who is bleeding from his head was hit by a sharp object, Reuters reported.The local administration has imposed Section 144 of CrPC that forbids movement and assembly of more than five people. A heavy deployment of Delhi Police personnel and the central paramilitary forces has also been made in the area to restore law and order. Union Home Secy Ajay Bhalla said, “Senior officials are on ground and sufficient forces deployed; situation in Delhi is under control.”Meanwhile, Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal, Deputy CM Manish Sisodia and LG Anil Baijal have appealed for calm and urged the protesters to exercise restraint.
