The Election Commission today announced to hold bye-elections to four Lok Sabha Constituencies and 8 Assembly Constituencies across seven states on 19th of November.
The by-elections will be held for Lakhimpur Lok Sabha seat in Assam, Shahdol in Madhya Pradesh, Coochbehar and Tamluk Parliamentary seats in West Bengal. The Lakhimpur Lok Sabha seat fell vacant after Sarbananda Sonowal resigned as an MP in May and took over as Chief Minister following BJP’s win in the Assembly polls. Bypoll to Shahdol was necessitated after the demise of BJP MP Dalpat Singh Paraste.
Renuka Sinha, a Member of Parliament of TMC from Cooch Behar constituency had died recently died requiring the bypoll. While Bye-poll to Tamluk Lok Sabha seat was caused after TMC MP Suvendu Adhikari won the West Bengal Assembly election from Nandigram seat and became a minister in the state.
The assembly seats where by-polls will be held are Baithalangso in Assam, Hayuliang in Arunachal Pradesh, Nepanagar in Madhya Pradesh, Monteswar in West Bengal, Thiruparankundram in Tamil Nadu, Barjala and Khowai in Tripura and Nellithope assembly seat in Puducherry.
The notification will be issued on 26th of October and counting will take place on 22nd of November.
