Defending champion PV Sindhu reached the women’s singles quarterfinals of the BWF World Championships with a straight-game win over Pornpawee Chochuwong of Thailand today in the BWF World Championships at Huelva in Spain. The world number 7 Indian defeated her Thai opponent, ranked three places below her, 21-14 21-18 in the pre-quarterfinal match.

The double Olympic medallist Sindhu will face top seed and world number one Tai Tzu Ying of Chinese Taipei in the quarterfinals.

In the men’s singles, former World No. 1 Srikanth defeated Lu Guangzu of China by 21-10 and 21-15 to enter quarterfinals.

World No. 21 women’s doubles duo Ashwini Ponnappa and Sikki Reddy lost to sixth seeds Jongkolphan Kititharakul and Rawinda Prajongjai by 21-13 and 21-15 in the pre-quarterfinals.

In the men’s doubles, eighth seeds Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty lost to ninth seeds Ong Yew Sin and Teo Ee Yi of Malaysia by 22-10, 21-18, 21-15 in the pre-quarterfinal.

Laskshya Sen will face Kevin Cordón of Guatemala and Prannoy will play against Rasmus Gemke of Denmark later today.
