At least 30 people were killed in a brutal prison massacres in the north-eastern Brazilian city of Natal. Officials said violence erupted between members of rival gangs on Saturday night at Alcacuz prison in the northeastern state of Rio Grande do Norte.

Forensic teams said most victims had been decapitated or had body parts chopped off. This is the third major riot in the country this year.

Nearly 100 inmates died in riots earlier this month in prisons in the states of Amazonas and Roraima. According to the reports, Brazil has the world’s fourth-largest prison population after the United States, China and Russia.
