Union Minister for Fisheries Giriraj Singh today informed the Lok Sabha that losses incurred by the fishermen have come down after the steps taken by the government as part of the Blue Revolution.

In a written reply to a question posed by the BJD member from Kendrapara, Anubhav Mohanty on the issue of storage facilities for the fishermen to preserve fish from perishing, the minister also said that the Department of Fisheries under the Ministry of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying has formulated a new scheme – Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana (PMMSY) for implementation over the next five years.

The PMMSY envisages to support fisheries infrastructure projects including cold storages.
