BSP chief Mayawati said that CBI officials contacted her last night and wanted to question her about NRHM. Charging the BJP with trying to use the CBI against her, she asked it to give up such tactics. Ms. Mayawati warned the BJP that she was not the one who could be bullied.
“BJP people have forgotten that I am not the one who can be bullied. I don’t bow down in front of anyone,” Mayawati said.
She said that she has no connection with the National Rural Health Mission, NRHM, scam. Addressing a press conference in New Delhi today, she said the decision to separate the Health and Family Welfare Ministries and to have two chief medical officers in each district for each of the ministries, was taken by the Uttar Pradesh Cabinet and not by her in individual capacity.
The scam took place during Mayawati’s regime between 2007 and 2012. A series of mysterious killings of a few prime accused, including some medical officers, and the arrest of top officers such as IAS official Pradip Shukla for partaking in defalcation of government money, shook her regime in its dying years. But the CBI stayed miles away from Mayawati.
She also said that BSP would stage a nationwide protests if the Union government act’s on the RSS chief’s advice regarding reservations.
RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat on Sunday pitched for a review of the reservation policy, contending it had been used for political ends and suggested setting up an apolitical committee to examine who needs the facility and till when. Distancing itself from the RSS chief’s remarks, the BJP repeatedly said on Monday that it does not favour reconsideration of the reservation policy.
