Hon'ble Chief MinisterOn the last day of filing nomination for mayoral election, Bhartiya Janata Party, the second largest party in BMC, has decided not to contest the election. Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis said, BJP will not compromise on the agenda of transparency and hence will not take help of any other party for Mayoral elections.

He said, BJP has got mandate on the issue of transparency and to respect voters’ trust, party corporators will act as ‘Guardians of Transparency’. He added that BJP will neither contest deputy Mayor or standing committee elections nor sit in the opposition.

He clearly indicated that BJP corporators would vote to Shiv Sena candidate if needed, paving the way for Shiv Sena to win Mayoral and deputy Mayoral elections. He said that the decision has been taken in the interest of Mumbai.

With this announcement, suspense over BMC’s power game has ended. Earlier today, Shiv Sena Corporator Vishwanath Mahadeshwar filed nominations for Mayoral and Hemangi Waralikar for Deputy Mayoral elections. Shiv Sena has welcomed BJP’s decision.
