BJP National Executive Meeting in Bhubaneswar today passed two resolutions on the OBC Commission . A resolution was passed thanking Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the Commission. Hukum Dev Narayan presented the resolution, while Shivraj Singh Chouhan, Dharmendra Pradhan, Raghubar Das seconded it.
The other resolution condemned the manner in which Congress and other parties are playing politics in this connection and stalling the bill.
Talking to reporters, senior party leader Prakash Javadekar accused the Congress of vote bank politics on granting constitutional status to the Commission.
Mr Javadekar also said, Opposition did not support the fight against black money and demonetisation, but people showed their support. He said, the Modi government is working for the poor and to provide justice to villagers, farmers, laborers and disadvantaged.
Mr Modi will address the Meeting this afternoon. Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath is also expected to speak at the meeting.
Earlier, the Prime Minister said, government will set up 50 virtual museums across the country to highlight the significant role of tribals in the freedom struggle. Mr Modi said this in Bhubaneswar after felicitating the family of 16 freedom fighters who undertook an armed rebellion against the British East India Company in 1817, known as Paika Rebellion. The freedom fighters included Raghu Dibakar, Laxman Nayak, Chakhi Khuntia, Bauxi Jagabandhu and Nirmal Munda. Mr Modi said, the government seeks to present before the present and future generations the sacrifices made by the tribal communities in the freedom struggle.
The Prime Minister termed the Paika revolt as one of the major historical events of the freedom struggle. Mr Modi also visited the 11th century old Lingaraj Temple and offered prayers to Lord Shiv and other deities.
The conclave is expected to underline the party’s strategy for seven states, including Odisha, Kerala, West Bengal, which are scheduled to go to polls next year.
The meeting began at Janata Maidan in Bhubaneshwar. Prime Minister Narendra Modi lighted the lamp along with other senior party leaders. Besides party veterans LK Advani and Murli Manohar Joshi, BJP president Amit Shah, Union ministers, chief ministers of 13 BJP-ruled states and three deputy chief ministers are attending the meet.
Party’s top leadership is deliberating on strategies to expand its mass base in eastern and southern states with an eye on the 2019 Lok Sabha polls.
Quoting BJP President Amit Shah, Ravishankar Prasad said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has emerged as the most popular leader since independence.
Ahead of participating in the national executive meet, the Prime Minister held a road show in Bhubaneswar and received great public support.
Prime Minister will felicitate the kin of the prominent freedom fighters of the state on 16 April. He will also offer prayer at Lingaraj Temple.
The 54-meter high temple is one of the brightest example of Kalinga style of architecture. The temple premises is spread over 25,000 square feet area.
