ONKAR SINGH / NEW DELHI

A BJP delegation today met the Election Commission and demanded action against Congress President Rahul Gandhi for what it called ‘unverified statements’ made on Prime Minister Narendra Modi during election campaigns. The party alleged that Mr Gandhi has been making speeches on the unverified basis.

Talking to media persons after meeting the EC, senior party leader Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi said, his party has submitted proofs to the Commission showing Mr Gandhi making unnecessary allegations. He said the EC should ask Mr Gandhi to refrain from making defamatory comments against the Prime Minister.

BJP also alleged that Madhya Pradesh government is hampering the campaign by its leader and former Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan and requested the Election Commission to take action in this regard. Mr Naqvi alleged that Chief Secretary of Madhya Pradesh government is working as an agent of the Congress party.

Another party leader Vijay Goel raised before the EC the statement made by AAP leader Atishi regarding BJP President Amit Shah and Mr Modi. He said the party has demanded that Ms Atishi should be barred from campaigning by the Commission for at least 72 hours for poll code violations. He demanded that an FIR should also be registered against Ms. Atishi for her remarks against Mr Shah and Mr Modi.
