AN ABUSIVE remark allegedly by Dayashankar Singh, vice president of BJP’s Uttar Pradesh unit against BSP supremo Mayawati today rocked Rajya Sabha as leaders across the party line condemned the remarks and asked for stringent action against the BJP leader. The House chaired by P J Kurien also also condemned the remarks.

Dayashankar Singh remarks came on the a day when Mayawati and other opposition leaders attacked the government for failing to protect Dalits in Gujarat, where violence has erupted after four Dalit men were thrashed last week by cow protection vigilantes.

“The whole country will not forgive the politician who has abused me”, said Mayawati in the House, where several leaders rose in her defence after she was described as “worse than a prostitute” by  BJP leader.

“Outside and even in parliament, I am called behenji or sister by most people,” said Mayawati, “so the man who used this term for me, he has abused not me but his sisters and daughter.”

“If action is not taken against him by his party, there will be big protests across the country and BJP will be responsible for it ” she warned.

Leader of the House Arun Jaitley told Mayawati he regrets his party colleague’s remark and promised an immediate investigation and action against him.

Satish Chandra Mishra of the BSP demanded registration of a case under SC and ST Act and arrest of the accused .

Raising the issue Leader of Opposition Ghulam Nabi Azad said the remark against Ms Mayawati is an insult to the entire womanhood. Leader of the House and Finance Minister Arun Jaitley expressed personal regret over the issue. He condemned the derogatory statement.

Later, when the House resumed discussion on consideration and passing of the Compensatory Afforestation Fund Bill, 2016, Congress members trooped into the well shouting slogans against the government over attacks on dalits in Gujarat.

Dayashankar Singh on Wednesday while taking to media said: “Mayawati has shattered the dreams of Kanshiram and the way she is distributing party tickets in exchange for money, even a prostitute doesn’t behave like that. In the morning if somebody offers her Rs 1 crore, she will give him the ticket. But if someone offers her Rs 3 crore in the evening, she will cancel the name of the previous candidate and give it to him. Worst than the prostitutes who are more loyal to her customer.”
