N Biren Singh was sworn-in as the Chief Minister of the first BJP-led government in Manipur today. Governor Najma Heptulla administered the oath of office and secrecy to Mr Singh at Raj Bhavan in state capital, Imphal.
Y Joykumar of the National People’s Party (NPP) was sworn-in as the Deputy Chief Minister. Seven Ministers also took oath.
Mr Singh leads the first BJP-led government in the state. He was unanimously elected as the leader of the 21-member BJP Legislature Party on Monday.
The Governor had yesterday invited Mr Singh to form the government after four members of the Naga People’s Front (NPF), met her and declared their support to BJP.
BJP also enlisted the support of NPP, with four seats, and one legislator each of Lok Janshakti Party, Trinamool Congress and Congress.
31 MLAs were needed to form the government in the 60-member Assembly. BJP had bagged 21 seats in the polls, while Congress had won 28.
