anil vijBJP has distanced itself from the controversial remarks about Mahatma Gandhi made by Haryana Minister Anil Bij. BJP spokesperson Srikant Sharma condemned the remarks describing them as minister’s personal comments. Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal also said that the remarks have been made by the Minister in his personal capacity and the party does not endorse them and has nothing to do with them.

Vij has since withdrew his controversial remarks in which he stated Mahatma Gandhi’s image did not help Khadi and caused devaluation of the currency. The remark sparked widespread outrage. Mahatma Gandhi’s great grandon Tushar Gandhi alleged that the remarks by Haryana Minister Anil Vij were part of a well orchestrated BJP campaign and the minister was speaking the language of RSS.

The Congres, meanwhile, said, Mahatma Gandhi can be killed, his photographs can be removed, but he remains in the soul of India.
