BJP has demanded investigation into the allegation of Arms dealer Abhishek Verma that Congress leader Jagdish Tytler had told him in 2008 that he had met the then Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh after which he got a clean chit in a 1984 anti-Sikh riots case. Talking to media persons New Delhi today, party spokesperson Sambit Patra said this is a serious allegations which show how CBI was misused in the UPA regime. He said if the allegations are true, they reflect how the investigative agency was influenced by the former Prime Minister.
Meanwhile, Congress has questioned the credibility of Verma saying he has been repeated offender and is an accused in the Arms deal case. Talking to reporters, party spokesperson Ajoy Kumar said the enquiry must be done into the allegations so that the truth can come out.
On the other hand, Aam Aadmi Party accused both the BJP and the Congress of being non-serious on the issue saying they do not want proper investigation in the riots cases. He said, Delhi government had recommended for SIT probe in the cases but Centre has not taken any steps in this regard so far. CPI leader D Raja said if the allegations are true, they need further investigation. He said, authorities should take note of the allegations.
In his statement as a witness recorded by the CBI during a probe, Verma, an accused in the naval war room leak and other cases including cheating and forgery, has said Tytler had told him that a deal was struck and a hefty amount was paid to a riots case witness, who had deposed against him. Presuming these claims to be true, the CBI filed a third closure report in a Delhi court yesterday which heard arguments on the report and asked the agency to respond to the allegations that Congress leader had tried to influence the witness.
