BJP asks PM to quit at NDA rally

NEW DELHI: The BJP led NDA on Thursday launched a scathing attack on Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh and demanded his resignation. The NDA leader at a rally here asked the PM to quit if a Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) to probe the  2G scam was deemed unacceptable to the government.
 
Barely 48 hour after the PM offered to present himself before the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) to answer any questions regardin the 2G allocation, the BJP rejected the offer and asked him either to resign or accept their demand of a JPC in the 2 G scam.

Senior BJP leader L K Advani asked Manmohan Singh to give up his no-JPC stance and come clean. He described the campaign against corruption as a campaign against the Prime Minister. "I am making my final appeal. You have the right to accept our demand. No one can stop you," he said.

BJP leader, Arun Jaitley said that the 2G scam is just not some figure out of CAG report. “It is related to the health of democracy”. He said that that only a JPC can do justice to this. “If Prime Minister doesn’t want to be under suspicion he should appoint a JPC. He must answer our questions and if he can’t then he should resign on moral grounds."

NDA also reminded the UPA of all the scams that have hit the government in the recent times, from the CWG, to Adarsh to even the appointment of the CVC.
Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Sushma Swaraj asked ‘Why government is afraid of JPC?’.  She said four JPCs had been formed until now to probe various scandals, including two during previous Congress regimes. "Neither the Supreme Court nor the PAC can answer the questions we are raising," she said. Rally was attended by leaders of the Janata Dal-United (JD-U), Akali Dal and Shiv Sena.
The Congress on the other hand rubbished the BJP demand for Prime Minister’s resignation. Briefing reporters, the party spokesman Abhishek Singhvi held opposition responsible for the Logjam over the issue in parliament. He described the NDA rally as one of those who are themselves known for inaction on corruption.
