This will pave the way for Mr. Gadkari to continue as BJP president for three more years. However, senior party leader M Venkaiah Naidu clarified that this is only an enabling provision and no President will get the second term automatically. The amendment was adopted during the party’s national executive meeting in Mumbai in May this year and was ratified by the ongoing National Council in Surajkund Friday.
During the National Executive Meeting, Senior leader LK Advani exhorted the party to play the role of a credible alternative rather than a mere opposition party. He said that party leaders should be equally tough on corruption in their own governments. Mr Advani asked party leaders to be united and must not talk in multiple voices.
