The death toll due to Acute Encephalitis Syndrome( AES in Muzaffarpur and it’s adjoining areas touches 161. Doctors and health officials are still clueless about the exact nature of the disease and precise cause of deaths even after twenty days.

“A team of National Cooperative Development Corporation ( NCDC)Pune and AIIMS will go to concerned villages to know the reason behind deaths due to Acute Encephalitis Syndrome ( AES). The team will meet members of the affected villages and will do a social audit. The team will also collect data regarding the economic background of families.

Fifty percent of deaths have been reported from three blocks Mushari, Kanti and Minapur blocks of Muzaffarpur district. Meanwhile acknowledging the lack of sufficient nutrition in AES affected kids Integrated Child Development Services( ICDS) have issued an advisory to combat AES. The advisory outlines steps which include providing nutritional supplements to be taken by Anganwadi sevikas and other officials for the prevention of the disease.

17 BJP MPs of Bihar to help construct PICUs

Nityanand Rai today announced that 17 party MPs of Bihar will help construct Pediatric Intensive Care Units ( PICUs) in their respective districts.

Talking to reporters in Patna, Mr Roy said, this step has been taken in view of rising cases of Acute Encephalitis Syndrome (AES) in the state.

He said, each MP will contribute 25 lakh rupees under Local Area Development programme (MPLAD). Mr Roy said, he has already given the amount for construction of the Intensive Care Unit at Sadar Hospital in Samastipur.
