At least 56 people were killed and many injured in rain and flood related incidents in different parts of Bihar.
Maximum 21 casualties have been reported from Bhagalpur, Gaya and Kaimur districts of the state.
Over 16 lakh people are reeling under the impact of flood in 15 districts including Katihar, Begusarai, Khagaria and Bhagalpur.
The worst situation is of Patna where over three lakh people have been affected due to worst ever water logging in low areas of the city. Relief and rescue operations are in full swing.
Two helicopters dropped food and essential commodities among affected people. Drinking water and medicines are also being provided.
Over nine hundred boats are shifting people from marooned areas of the state. Mobile pumping sets have been pressed into service to discharge water in low lying areas of Patna including Kankarbagh and Rajendra Nagar. Over 42000 people have so far been evacuated. The State Government has requisitioned four high capacity water pumping sets from Coal India Limited.
Each pumps will have capacity of pumping 30 thousand gallons of water per hour. Urban Development Minister Suresh Kumar said it will take three to four days to drain out water from low lying areas of state capital.
